With a stage full of sensuality and drama Santiago Ballet presents Carmen, choreographed by Marcia Haydée and designs of costumes and scenery by Pablo Nunez. The production, which premiered in 2004 in our Theatre, is based on the work of Prosper Mérimée and uses the original music of Georges Bizet's opera, plus other music by the same composer adapted especially by pianist Dobreva Albena.
Carmen is set in Seville, Spain, where a factory cigarette snuff have captivated passersby and soldiers of the place. Special thanks to Don Jose, Sergeant of Dragoons, who is committed to the village sweet Micaela. However, the sergeant is seduced by Carmen, one of the cigar. The strong personality of Roma is quickly recognized and who is arrested for participating in a fight with her companions. Carmen does not care about his imprisonment because he knows that Don José, and in love with her, favor his escape. And so it is. In return, Carmen promises a romantic encounter Pastia Lillas Tavern. In that place the gypsy offers flee to the mountains and take shelter in the shelter of a smuggling ring of which she is a part. But the cigar begins to be attracted to the bullfighter Escamillo. Don Jose not adapt to that life of freedom disillusioning Carmen.
The Torero appears where starting a fight with Don José, who senses he has lost the love of the gypsy and returns with Micaela. The military could not forget Carmen, located in the bullring, as the official mistress of Escamillo. Don José begs her to come with him, and blinded by jealousy and frustrated by the refusal of Carmen, decides to kill her burying a dagger.
